I made some internets. Right now this photoblog is mostly holiday shots but I’m reminding myself to take photos for fun - so hopefully weekly updates!

(it might not play nice in Internet Explorer sorry)

Dowling Duncan get all Geigy redesigning the US Dollar - lovely work, the vertical format makes a lot of sense.

“Never kill a snake with your bare hands” some Vimeo awesomeness via @nickfractureTELEPHONEME | MK12 on Vimeo

The Mast Brothers - another quiet and very beardy occupational film. Found this on Devour a great new Youtube/Vimeo curation site from the folks behind Uncrate.

‘A Crash Landing Amongst the Tapirs’ - lots of wit in photographer Todd Baxter’s conceptual portfolio.

Making a simple ‘client portal’ web app with Wordpress

I’ve been wanting an online client-only space for a while now. Somewhere for clients to review work on screen, leave comments and also come back to for answers to regular questions like where to login to their various admin systems (CMS, webshop, newsletters etc).

Existing web apps don’t seem to meet all my needs and many are overly complex so for better or worse I’m taking a DIY approach and building it on Wordpress. Whilst I can write a bit of frontend code I’m certainly no backend developer so creating login systems etc. was out of the question. This meant using something that was already in place and bending it to my will.

Wordpress actually ticks several boxes – accounts with full login & lost password loops, comments & notifications, open source code, an easy-to-use admin and lots and lots of people out there also trying to make it meet their unique needs.

It needs to address the following issues:

  • I often create mock sites (an image of each page design wrapped in some basic HTML) for real world viewing in browsers - be good to simplify this process
  • Consolidating feedback in one place rather than across several emails
  • Be reasonably secure & not require me to change/edit passwords

I’ve made some really quick progress and am now fine-tuning - here’s an initial couple of screens, more to follow soon with a demo site with any luck.. stay tuned

Studio, Studio, Studio

Looking for someone to share my studio above Ripe Deli in Grey Lynn. It’s a sunny 20sqm room and there’s space for another desk or two.

Ideal for a small creative or marketing business – there’s heaps of storage, wireless internets, a beer fridge and even a carpark if required.

Rent for one is $540pcm and includes all outgoings and reasonable use of the internet. The space could fit two - rent negotiable.
